HomeWelcome to BlueStar AcresNov 23, 2007
We have been a family co-op for many years . We want to share our blessings and good fortune with our neighbors. We grow many heirloom varieties of tomatoes, when you taste them you'll know why! We are going to be growing a large variety of herbs, veggies and fruits.
FAQ: Do I have to be at home for delivery? No, most of our members aren't home, or if it's a night delivery, asleep. You just leave your cooler in a predetermined, shady spot and we come fill it up.
Are you certified organic? No, but we do use organic growing practices.
Is everything locally grown? The vast majority of our produce is grown within 40 miles of the CSA. Occasionally, we get a good deal on organic produce that out of season to grow here- we may make a purchase to divvy up among members. We would only use Texas and Louisiana organically grown produce , even then and we only use growers we know and trust.
Do you have anything besides veggies and fruit? For an additional charge we offer eggs, naturally smoked meats and pecans. We also have others members who may be contacted for raw milk and grass fed beef.
Can we tour the farm? Not to sound unfriendly but, nope! We are a group of small farmers. These are our homes and there's really not much to tour. The growers are just too spread out to make a tour feasible. That's why we deliver. Plus ,well, we're busy!
What will be in my delivery? It changes with what is ripe in the gardens at the time. At the time of this question a full share might contain a selection of the following: - baby spinach, 4 slicer tomatoes (different varieties) 12 grape and/or cherry tomatoes 8-12 Romas 1 head Romain, 1 head loose red leaf kale, kohlrabi, bag of green beans, red and/or yellow onions, cilantro, dill, sage, rosemary, and thyme ,3 bell peppers (yellow , orange, green,or red) 2-3 cloves of shallots or leeks, 2 large acorn squash or 1 butternut, 1 bunch beets w/ tops, fingerling potatoes or new potatoes, 1 bunch carrots, 2 ponderosa lemons, limes, 4-6 satsuma oranges, 4-6 Granny Smith Apples Usually there's some other unusual item like, Bok Choy or persimmons for example.Heirloom tomatoes will be in warmer weather. This is just some idea of what a full share may contain, It fills an ice chest fairly full. It changes with what is ripe at the time, sometimes slightly bigger- sometimes a little smaller. 1/2 shares would get 1/2 as much.
Can I specify what I get in an order? If you let me know after becoming a member, via e-mail, what your likes/dislikes, allergies, etc. are , I will TRY to accommodate on a FEW items. But , you pretty much get what is in the gardens and ripe at the time. If you can't use an item you receive, perhaps a friend would enjoy them.
What happens if I sign up for a year and need to quit or can't renew immediately? We do not and can not afford to give refunds, since all money is immediately put back into the CSA. In an emergency situation (home uninhabitable, military deployment, death in the immediate family, things of that nature),you will be billed at the monthly rate, up to that point and your remaining balance will be mailed out to you as soon as possible after our notification. This will not be immediate and could very possibly take quite some time,IF POSSIBLE AT ALL. We do not refund simply because you change your mind, this is a commitment between the growers and the members. If you find you cannot renew on time please make arrangements with us for when you can or if you plan not to renew let us know as soon as possible as it takes a minimum of 76 days to grow your share. When you wait till the last minute to tell us , we have already planted crops for you. We do not cut off deliveries just because you can't renew right away. Renewal dates are on your agreement and we try to keep all members renewal dates on the calendar on this site as a courtesy. Please be aware , it puts a great deal of financial burden on the CSA if a member waits to the last minute to give notice. There are one month memberships available if you want to try before you buy. Please feel free to contact me about any questions not addressed on this site.
Look forward to hearing from you!

Laura, I'd like to come talk to you about an organic fertilizer. It's Orykta, a Montmorillonite clay. I'm not trying to sell you anything. I'd like you to try it and give me your opinion. Freya Shiller freya.shiller@wfcdist.com or 713-516-2771 you can look at our website www.wfcdist.com
